Celebrating Diversity in Community

This morning, July 1st, we held our intention of setting a stage for the community.

We honoured our intention of emulate nature and its collaborative space.

Diverse voices from or of this land, and some others who have been invited here, on the unceded ancestral territories of the Musqueam, Squamish and Tseil-Wathuth people, got together -via Zoom- to honour our communities, ancestors, spiritual practices, plant medicines and all living beings. A morning of sharing protocols of generosity and abundance.

Sonny Wallas, elder from the Coast Salish territories and Indigenous Languages Keeper; Naomi Pommier a writer and community builder; Manuel Pina, visual artist, activist and professor; and Sara Ross, educator and bird language's teacher, shared the stage.

We felt the vibration of the ancient and traditional languages shared by Sonny Wallas. We could felt the vibration of his words, of his voice, inside us; the connection of his words and Mother Earth's vibration. We also felt very thankful to hear he is bringing those languages into the future, Sonny has also been adding new words into those languages. Those new words which have been added into our lives -computer, Facebook, and so much more. Infinite gratitude for Sonny's presence and time.

We were introduced to the language of birds by Sara, an invitation to tune within bird conversations; through Manuel's voices we heard a story of what it means to become Canadian, what it means to be welcomed by the people of this Land; Naomi enlighten us on what it means to be living in community in Vancouver, her energetic resilience on creating a diverse community in a small city full of beautiful contradictions.

We are very grateful we started this day and this month in communion, Inharmony Innature. Profound gratitude for the growing community, for your authentic pursue of commitment. Thanks to all of you, humans, birds, plants, beings, spirits and ancestors from the Four Directions, for your encouragement today.

"Lori and Laura were absolutely wonderful hosts this morning.  I can think of no better way to spend this First of July than joining in spirit with this lovely group of kind and intelligent souls.

I am just this week beginning an essay on my experiences with ecoliteracy and  creative dance and this talk was a beautiful boost for me; the spiritual dimension of thoughts and feelings permeates the day! I will see you soon. Bonne journée." Eleanor Hendricks
