Dandelion is a small plant, found in gardens all over the world. It arrives in early Spring, and it stays around until Fall. Gardeners are not very fond of dandelion and subsequently we have ignored its benefits. Kids, in other hand, love to play with its flowers and seeds.
Dandelion have been used for centuries for its health benefits. We could used its leaves, stems, flowers and roots for
medicinal purposes. It could also be added in our diet.
As we enter in the Spring time we can harvest the Dandelion root. We will not harvest the Dandelion grandmothers -the big dandelion patches-, we will let the grandmothers to live as they play a great role in the creation of well balanced ecosystems. Dandelions are an early source of pollen in our gardens so we will not harvest the flowers at this time.
In the last couple of weeks, Lori and Laura had harvested the Dandelion roots and we shared the tea made from its beautiful roots. We have added its edible leaves into healthy pesto and salads. We have also invited Dandelion to be the first plant in our community book.
Last Sunday, in our first art workshop, we played a little bit Dandelions and we have created some pages for our community book.
We invite you to email us your dandelion recipes, photographs, stories and art to be included in our community book.
