What we have been co-creating in the last two years?

What we have been co-creating in the last two years?

Dear friends and community,

Our second year as artists in residence is coming to an end and we would like to share with you what we have been co-creating in community.

Lori Snyder and Laura Cisneros are the artists in residence at Hastings/Sunrise community centre, 2020- 2021. Lori a Metis refugee and Laura, mujer mestiza. are humbled to reside on the lands and waters of the Coast Salish People, xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil Waututh) Nations. We feel privileged to live here and ask ourselves, how could we show respect, reciprocity, and express our deep gratitude to all beings living on this part of Mother Earth. We also take time to reflect on what does it mean to be a good guest? What is our responsibility? and what are the symbolic acts we could practice to show our love of our living world?

We don’t intend to follow a chronological order of the events, instead, we intend to reproduce through photos, videos, and words, the way we have been weaving a web in community, and expanding our relations in nature. We intend to document the intra-connections among all the events and gatherings we have organized. From meditative sessions in nature, plants teachings, learning about the trees living in our City, connections North-South, art-making, and homage to our ancestors.

Some of the posts will refer to art creation, others will reflect on the messages we have brought forward. Some videos will contain teachings about plants, and the photos will show the community we have cultivated.

On these two years of co-creation and fun, there is an item that has a very special place in our hearts and we envision it as a legacy of the communal creation. We have co-created a reference legacy book that could be perceived as a mirror of the current times. This book reflects our effort on connecting all the parts included in our project: diversity expressed through the community voices, mixed media art creations, expansion of our relations in nature, the re-creation of ancient practices, plant teachings, conscious dreaming, and our offerings to Mother Earth.

We will appreciate your comments on any of these topics and/or any sharing about your experience as part of this or any other community.

In reciprocity.

Love. beauty, sweetness & magic,

Laura C & Lori A
